Preserving Your Lash Extensions

You ooze confidence as you strut into a room and feel all eyes on you; you have the foolproof cat eye encased with the perfect eyeliner wing and lash extension. As you scan the room, you fix your eyes on a woman with a sparkly turquoise eyeshadow and voluminous lashes and you are hypnotized. The beautiful aspect of lash extensions is that your eye can be transformed in many different ways by a classic black winged liner, a pop of colourful eyeshadow or a swipe of a trusted mascara. The trick to a gorgeous eye is choosing the correct techniques and knowing what harmful products to stay away from.

Tip 1: NEVER OPT FOR THE WATERPROOF LINER

The waterproof liner is almost impossible to remove without an oil based makeup remover, damaging your lash extensions. The waterproof formula can latch onto your lashes, weighing them down and shortening their life span. A simple non-waterproof liner might not be as permanent, but it will do no damage and preserve the life of your lash extensions.

Tip 2: NO OIL BASED LINERS

Hand in hand with no oil based make-up removers, the oil breaks down the adhesives in the extensions causing them to fall out at a much more rapid pace. The oil has the potential to dissolve the stickiness in the glue and it can create a bit of a goo, which no one wants. Instead, choose a light powder liner that can be removed with a simple tissue that does not damage the integrity of the lash.

Tip 3: STAY AWAY FROM PENCILS

A smoky eye pencil can create a sexy demeanor, however the application of the pencil on the eyelid causes a pull of the eyelid. The pressure of the pull can damage the lash line by loosening the lash band which can also damage the adhesives of the lash extensions. As you drag the pencil across the outward corners to the inner corners, it can damage the lash line ruin the glue.

Tip 4: CHOOSE WATER-BASED/GEL-BASED LINERS

Water-based liners can be easily applied with the liner brush and it does not ruin the integrity of the lash as it’s not a harsh application. Gel-based liners (coloured or black) can be applied with a powder brush which does not ruin the lash line; though they are typically heavier than a pencil and liquid liner, they are less detrimental to the longevity of the lash.

Having a beautiful eye doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice one characteristic for another, you just simply have to choose the correct product that can accommodate your lash extensions. Pair that sparkly eyeshadow with your lash extensions and you will be turning heads all night.
